THE BIG THREE: Nature centered, People centered, Technology centered.

HELLO BOYS AND GIRLS AND WELCOME TO MY ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS BLOG WHERE YOU WILL LEARN ALL ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL VALUES!

The first question you may ask yourself is: What are Environmental values?

That’s simple! Environmental values are particular world views that shape the way an individual or group of people perceive and evaluate environmental issues.

There are three main Environmental Values:

1.      Ecocentrism (nature centered) – Those who follow Ecocentrism as their environmental value aim to achieve sustainability for the whole earth. They often self-impose restraint on resource use is order to minimize any disturbance to all natural processes.

2.      Anthropocentrism (people centered) – Those who follow Anthropocentrism as their environmental value aim to achieve a sustainable global system brought about by people as environmental managers.  This often requires strong regulation by independent authorities.

3.      Technocentrism (technology centered) - Those who follow Technocentrism as their environmental value believe that technology can keep up and provide solutions to environmental problems.  They put strong emphasis on scientific analysis and depend on economic growth.

Now that you have learned about the three main Environmental Values, which one do YOU agree with?
